You see this sign when you wish to park. On the days and times shown, what should you do?

    The answer options

    • Park in a bay and don't pay
    • Park in the bay and payCorrect
    • Park on yellow lines and not pay
    • Park on yellow lines and pay

    Why that is the answer

According to the Highway Code, parking signs displaying specific days and times show when controlled parking rules apply. During these hours, you must park correctly within a designated bay and pay the required fee. You must not park on nearby yellow lines, which indicate waiting restrictions, nor should you park in the bay without paying, as this could lead to a penalty charge.

How this comes up in the real test

Questions from rules of the road appear throughout the 50-question multiple-choice section, and the wording changes between versions. Learn the rule rather than the sentence: the DVSA can ask the same point from the opposite direction, and a memorised answer falls over the moment the phrasing moves.

The pass mark is 43 out of 50, so seven wrong answers is your entire margin. If a whole category is shaky, run the topic practice below until you are getting every question right for the right reason, then go back to full mocks under the clock.
