Why that is the answer
On a single carriageway road displaying the national speed limit sign, the maximum speed limit for a car towing a trailer is 50 mph. Towing affects vehicle handling and stability, so national speed limits are 10 mph lower for towing vehicles. A speed of 60 mph is the limit for solo cars on a single carriageway, not those towing trailers. The Highway Code sets these reduced limits to improve safety on the road.
