Why that is the answer
Turning around directly on a busy main road using a U-turn or multi-point turn is dangerous and obstructs other traffic. Reversing out of a side road onto a main road is equally unsafe and against the Highway Code. The safest option is to turn into a quiet side road, execute a safe and legal manoeuvre to turn around, and then re-join the main road in the correct direction when clear.
