Why that is the answer
On a three-lane dual carriageway, you should always drive in the left-hand lane under normal circumstances. The middle and right-hand lanes are for overtaking slower traffic or preparing to turn right at junctions or roundabouts. A common mistake is choosing overtaking only, which applies to motorways rather than dual carriageways. Using cruise control has no bearing on lane choice, and you must return to the left when it is safe.
How this comes up in the real test
