Why that is the answer
White zig-zag lines at pedestrian crossings mean no parking and no overtaking. They keep the approach to the crossing clear so drivers can see pedestrians and pedestrians can see approaching traffic. You must not park or stop on these lines at any time. A common mistake is assuming short-stay parking or quick pick-ups are allowed, but stopping here for any reason is illegal and dangerous. The Highway Code strictly prohibits parking on zig-zag lines.
