Why that is the answer
The Highway Code states that you should always drive in the left-hand lane unless you are overtaking. Therefore, the right-hand lane of a three-lane motorway is used as an overtaking lane for traffic moving faster than cars in the middle or left lanes. Once you have finished overtaking, you must move back to a lane on your left. It is incorrect to think of it as a fast lane, as speed limits apply equally across all lanes.
