Why that is the answer
If your vehicle catches fire in a tunnel, driving it out is the safest option if possible. Smoke and heat build up rapidly in enclosed spaces, creating a severe hazard for everyone inside. Getting clear of the tunnel into open air makes it much safer and easier for emergency services to attend. Official Highway Code guidance advises stopping inside a tunnel only if you are forced to do so.
How this comes up in the real test
