Turning on your hazard warning lights immediately alerts approaching drivers to the potential danger ahead, giving them time to react or move into another lane safely. Standing behind your vehicle or attempting repairs in a live lane is extremely dangerous due to high-speed traffic. Never try to stop traffic yourself. The Highway Code stresses making your vehicle as visible as possible straight away before seeking further help.
