You begin to feel tired during a long motorway journey. What should you do?

Why that is the answer

If you feel tired while driving, you must leave the motorway at the next exit or pull into a service area to take a break. Tiredness severely impairs your reaction times and concentration, making driving dangerous. Stopping on the hard shoulder is illegal except in a genuine emergency, while playing loud music or driving faster will not prevent fatigue. The Highway Code recommends taking a 15-minute break every two hours.

How this comes up in the real test

Questions from alertness appear throughout the 50-question multiple-choice section, and the wording changes between versions. Learn the rule rather than the sentence: the DVSA can ask the same point from the opposite direction, and a memorised answer falls over the moment the phrasing moves.
