Why that is the answer
You must give way to pedestrians waiting to cross a side road you intend to turn or reverse into. Pedestrians are vulnerable road users, and reversing with someone behind your vehicle is extremely dangerous due to restricted vision. Wait patiently for them to finish crossing before starting your manoeuvre. Never wave them across, as another vehicle could be approaching, and never use your horn to force them to give way.
