Why that is the answer
As a general rule, vehicles towing a trailer are prohibited from using the right-hand lane on a motorway with three or more lanes. The main exception is when lane closures or roadworks mean other lanes are unavailable or you are directed to use it. You must not use the right-hand lane just because traffic in other lanes is moving slowly or because you want to drive faster, as these restrictions exist to maintain safety.
