Why that is the answer

Before turning left, you must check your nearside mirror and blind spot for cyclists who may have filtered up your left-hand side while you were stopped. Cyclists are vulnerable road users and often pass queuing traffic on the inside. Moving out to the right before turning is dangerous, as it can swing your vehicle into oncoming traffic. Always check for cyclists on the left just before moving off.
