If you get a puncture on a motorway, pull onto the hard shoulder, switch on your hazard lights, and call for professional assistance. Never attempt to change a tyre yourself on the hard shoulder, as the proximity of high-speed traffic makes it extremely dangerous. The Highway Code advises leaving your vehicle via the left-hand doors and waiting behind the safety barrier on the embankment until help arrives.
