Why that is the answer
Cyclists are at the highest risk from tram rails because thin bicycle tyres can easily get caught in the track grooves, causing a rider to fall. Additionally, wet metal rails are extremely slippery for two-wheeled vehicles. Larger motor vehicles such as cars, buses, and lorries have much wider tyres that easily span the grooves without getting stuck. The Highway Code advises cyclists to cross tram rails at a right angle where possible to avoid accidents.
