Why that is the answer
Under motorway rules, you must obey all traffic signals, including red lights on overhead gantries, which may require you to stop. Stopping on the carriageway or hard shoulder for personal reasons is illegal and extremely dangerous. If you need to rest, use a mobile phone, or get fresh air, you must leave at the next junction or stop at a service station. Hitchhiking on motorways is also prohibited.
