Why that is the answer
Fitting a roof rack increases aerodynamic drag, meaning the car meets more wind resistance as it moves. Because the engine has to work harder to overcome this extra resistance, your vehicle will use more fuel. A roof rack will also increase wind noise, not reduce it.
