Why that is the answer
When driving up a steep hill, gravity pulls the vehicle backwards, meaning the engine must work harder to maintain momentum. You should change down to a lower gear to give the engine enough power to climb the slope smoothly. Higher gears will cause the engine to struggle, while overtaking becomes far more hazardous due to reduced visibility.
