Why that is the answer
Red reflective studs mark the left edge of the motorway carriageway, separating the left-hand lane from the hard shoulder or verge. They help you see where the road ends in the dark or during bad weather. In contrast, white studs separate lanes, amber studs run alongside the central reservation on the right, and green studs mark junction slip roads.
