Why that is the answer
When encountering a ford or deep water on the road, select a low gear and drive through slowly. This keeps your engine revs high to stop water entering the exhaust pipe and prevents creating a bow wave that could flood your engine. Selecting a high gear increases the risk of stalling in the water. Remember to test your brakes gently as soon as you clear the hazard.
