Why that is the answer
Always make sure your fuel filler cap is securely fastened after refuelling. A loose cap allows fuel to spill onto the road, particularly when turning or accelerating. The Highway Code warns that diesel spillage creates a dangerously slippery surface, placing other road users, especially motorcyclists, at great risk. You do not need to restrict filling to three-quarters full, provided you do not overfill the tank and the cap is properly secured.
