About the theory test itself
The car theory test has two parts sat in one appointment: 50 multiple-choice questions in 57 minutes, and a hazard perception section of 14 video clips with 15 scoreable hazards. You need 43 out of 50 on the multiple-choice and 44 out of 75 on hazard perception, and you must pass both parts together, in the same sitting, to get an overall pass.
A pass certificate is valid for two years, which is the window you have to pass your practical test as well. If that window runs out, you'll need to pass the theory test again before booking a practical.
About booking
You must hold a provisional driving licence to book any theory test, whether direct with the DVSA or through us. The DVSA sets and collects the £23 theory test fee, and this applies each time you sit the test, including resits.

How much does the theory test cost?

How many questions are in the theory test?

What's the pass mark?

How long is a theory test pass valid for?
Two years from the date you pass. You need to pass your practical driving test within that window, otherwise your theory pass expires and you'll need to sit and pass the theory test again first.
Do I need a provisional licence to book?
Yes, a provisional driving licence is required to book any theory test, whether through us or directly with the DVSA. Have your licence number ready before signing up.
What's included in Full Membership?
Theory test booking, access to our Theory Learning Hub, one resit included with no minimum mark required, our theory test cancellation checker, our practical test cancellation checker, and access to Highway Code content, all for £49.
Is there a minimum mark to qualify for the free resit?
No. However your test goes, the resit included with Full Membership applies. You don't need to have been close to the pass mark to qualify.
What does the cancellation checker actually do?
It monitors your chosen DVSA test centres, which can be more than one at a time, for earlier available slots than your current booking, and texts you the moment one appears so you can act quickly.
Can the cancellation checker guarantee an earlier date?
No, because that depends on other learners cancelling or changing their own bookings, which is outside anyone's control. What's guaranteed is continuous checking and an instant text alert when something does open up.
What comes in the theory books bundle?
The AA Highway Code book, a set of L plates, a theory test educational colouring book, and the DVSA Official Theory Test book, sent first class as soon as your order is processed.
Can I buy the books without the rest of the membership?
Yes, Theory Books Only is £37 and includes just the four book items, with no booking, revision hub access, or cancellation checking included at that price.
Should I book through you or directly with GOV.UK?
Either works. Booking direct is fine if you're confident revising alone and don't mind checking for cancellations yourself. We add structured revision, active cancellation checking and an included resit for those who want the extra support.
What happens if I fail the hazard perception section but pass multiple-choice?
You still need to retake the whole test, both sections, since a pass requires clearing both parts in the same sitting. With Full Membership, that retake is covered by your included resit.
Can family members share one membership?
Membership is set up per learner, since it's tied to an individual's booking and licence details. If you're supporting more than one learner, get in touch and we can talk through the best way to set each of them up.
How do I claim my included resit?
Let us know your result once you have it, and we'll get your resit booked as part of your existing membership, with the DVSA's own £23 fee still applying to that new booking.
