# Which of the following is most likely to waste fuel?

DVSA-style practice question · Safety and your Vehicle

## The answer options

- Under-inflated tyres**Correct**
- Driving on motorways
- Driving at a lower speed
- Using different brands of fuel

## Why that is the answer

Under-inflated tyres create more rolling resistance on the road, forcing the engine to work harder and consume more fuel. Checking your tyre pressures regularly ensures safety and helps keep running costs down, as advised in the Highway Code. By contrast, driving smoothly at lower speeds actually improves fuel efficiency, and mixing fuel brands makes no difference.

## How this comes up in the real test

Questions from safety and your vehicle appear throughout the 50-question multiple-choice section, and the wording changes between versions. Learn the rule rather than the sentence: the DVSA can ask the same point from the opposite direction, and a memorised answer falls over the moment the phrasing moves.

The pass mark is 43 out of 50, so seven wrong answers is your entire margin. If a whole category is shaky, run the topic practice below until you are getting every question right for the right reason, then go back to full mocks under the clock.

## Passed your theory? Get the practical booked

Your theory certificate lasts two years. Most learners who use it quickly do it with an intensive course — a block of hours with a DVSA approved instructor and a practical test at the end, instead of one lesson a week for months.
