The Highway Code is the source the DVSA writes theory test questions from, which is why revising questions alone gets you so far and no further. Learn the rule and you can answer any version of the question; memorise an answer and you are stuck the moment the wording moves. Each guide below covers one area in ordinary language, points you at the relevant rule numbers so you can read the original on GOV.UK, and finishes with the mistakes learners actually make in mock tests. One distinction is worth getting straight before you start. Rules using MUST or MUST NOT are legal requirements backed by law, and breaking them is an offence. Rules using should or should not are advisory, though ignoring them can still be used in evidence if something goes wrong.
