If your identification does not meet the requirements, staff are not able to make exceptions on the day, however minor the issue seems to you. This means the ID rules are not a formality to skim past. Checking exactly what you need, and confirming your documents are valid and in date, is one of the simplest ways to avoid losing your test fee and having to rebook. ## The most straightforward option: photocard driving licence For most candidates, a valid UK photocard provisional or full driving licence is the simplest form of identification. It shows your photograph, signature and licence number, all of which the test centre can check against your booking details. Bring the physical card itself, not a photo of it on your phone. Check before test day that the licence has not expired and that the photo and details are still an accurate match for you, particularly if it has been some time since you applied for it. ## If you do not have a photocard licence Not everyone booking a theory test already holds a photocard licence, particularly if you have only just applied for your provisional licence and it has not yet arrived.
