That spread is why two centres fifteen miles apart can feel like different tests. Anyone selling you "the North Yorkshire test route" is selling a guess — the DVSA withdrew published routes in 2010. What is knowable is the road types, starting with shopping-street traffic, and those are what our instructors drill. Centre by centre — Knaresborough: shopping-street traffic, national-speed-limit link roads and hilly residential turns. Mini-roundabouts are the usual stumbling block — they still need proper observation and signalling.. Malton: moorland or open-country stretches, sudden limit changes and narrow village streets. Sharp, poorly signed junctions mean planning has to start well before the give-way line.. Middlesbrough: a19 links, roundabouts and industrial roads. High-speed dual carriageway is likely.. Northallerton: shopping-street traffic, national-speed-limit link roads and hilly residential turns. Mini-roundabouts are the usual stumbling block — they still need proper observation and signalling.. Scarborough: ferry or dock approaches, holiday-park entrances and old town streets. Wind off the sea can affect steering on exposed stretches, and the examiner expects you to allow for it.. Skipton: bypass slip roads, mini-roundabouts and older residential terraces. Routes leave the built-up area quickly, so speed adjustment between limits is heavily assessed.. Whitby: high street, suburban streets and rural fringe. Progress is marked as well as caution: hanging back on clear A-road stretches reads as hesitancy.. York: a1237 ring road, city streets and cycle-heavy roads. Roundabout chains on the ring road are the defining feature.. ## North Yorkshire: the things that catch learners out Mini-roundabouts are the usual stumbling block — they still need proper observation and signalling., Junction observation on the approach roads is the recurring theme., If your lessons have been in a different part of North Yorkshire, plan at least a couple of sessions on these roads before the test., Sharp, poorly signed junctions mean planning has to start well before the give-way line. and The built-up section is short, so the limit changes come quickly and get marked..
