Assessment session Your first session is used to check where you actually are, not where the booking form said you were. The plan is adjusted from there. ### 2\. The main block The bulk of your 10 hours, usually in two or three hour sessions. Longer sessions mean less time re-learning between lessons. ### 3\. Mock and test The last block is mock tests and test-route practice. We recommend a test date once you are consistently passing mocks. ## Who a 10 hour course is genuinely for Ten hours is a finishing course, not a learning course. It assumes you can already drive: you move off and stop smoothly, you read junctions without prompting, and you have driven in the last few months rather than the last few years. What you need is the gap between 'can drive' and 'can pass' closed. The learners it suits best are the ones failing on small, repeatable faults — an observation missed at the same type of junction, a habit of hugging the kerb, a manoeuvre that works four times out of five. Those are fixable in a handful of focused sessions because the underlying driving is already there. It is the wrong course if you have never driven independently, if your last lesson was over a year ago, or if you are relying on it to teach manoeuvres from scratch. In those cases ten hours runs out before the syllabus does, and you end up topping up at a worse price than if you had booked 20 hours to begin with. ## What the ten hours are actually spent on The first session is an honest assessment drive. Your instructor drives the sort of roads your test centre uses and marks the drive the way an examiner would, so you both start from evidence rather than a guess about where you are. The middle sessions target whatever that assessment found. In practice this is usually two or three specific things, not ten — observation at emerging junctions, mirror timing on approach, or one manoeuvre that has never quite settled. The final block is mock tests on the road types around your test centre, run end to end including paperwork, show me / tell me questions and the independent drive. The point of a mock is not the score, it is removing the novelty of the format so test day is not the first time you have done it. ## Fitting ten hours around a booked test Most learners take this course as two-hour or three-hour sessions across one to two weeks, finishing three to five days before the test. Leaving a small gap is deliberate: it lets any last corrections settle rather than being drilled the night before.
