# Intensive course or weekly lessons? An honest comparison

Intensive courses are not automatically faster or better value. Here is the case for each, from instructors who teach both every week.

## The case for going intensive

Concentrated practice keeps skills fresh. When you drive every day, you spend the first five minutes of each session driving rather than re-learning what you did a fortnight ago, so a higher share of paid hours goes on new ground.

Intensive courses suit learners with a firm deadline — a job offer, a university move, a test date already in the diary — and learners who have driven before and need structured re-training rather than a standing start.

## Where weekly lessons win

Weekly lessons spread the cost, and they leave gaps for private practice with a family member, which is the cheapest driving hour you will ever get. Learners who are genuinely nervous also tend to do better with time to absorb each stage.

If you cannot take a week off work, an intensive course becomes a series of evenings anyway, at which point the advantage largely disappears.

## How to choose

Be honest about how many hours you need before comparing prices. A 10-hour intensive course is cheaper than 30 weekly hours, but only one of those is realistic for a complete beginner, and the average learner needs far more time behind the wheel than they expect.

Whichever route you pick, the hour count matters more than the format. Buy the hours you need, then choose the schedule that you will actually turn up to.
